— ARCHIVE — typography | Diploma Project — Rise: machine-readable typeface for a fictional scanning system || THIS TYPEFACE WAS DEVELOPED AS AN EXTENSION OF THE BOOK PROJECT, OPERATING BETWEEN IMAGE, PATTERN AND LANGUAGE. AT FIRST GLANCE, IT READS AS STRUCTURE RATHER THAN TEXT — VISUAL NOISE THAT CONCEALS ENCODED INFORMATION. EACH CHARACTER ORIGINATES FROM AN IMAGE DISRUPTED THROUGH AN ASCII EDITOR, COLLAPSING INTO ABSTRACT, PIXEL-BASED FORM AND RECONSTRUCTED AS VECTOR SHAPES INTO A MACHINE-LEGIBLE SCRIPT. THE RESULT IS A TYPEFACE UNREADABLE TO HUMANS BUT PRECISE FOR DIGITAL INTERPRETATION. IT SPECULATES ON FUTURE SCANNING SYSTEMS AND FUNCTIONS WITHIN THE BOOK AS AN IDENTIFICATION CODE: EVERY PAGE IS NUMBERED THROUGH IT, AND THE COVER ITSELF BECOMES A UNIQUE, MACHINE-READABLE SERIAL.
